Hey guys! Many of you know, I’m wrapping work on the Gaga Mixtape…and I couldn’t be more excited. This has been 14 months in the making. And I’m getting it mastered so the audio will be on point. And I’m getting a thousand physical copies pressed, to be given away for free. :D
Many of you guys have volunteered to design cd covers, which I’ve used on YouTube and SoundCloud. I love that my sound art gives someone a chance to make visual art. It’s a beautiful collaboration. So I wanted to offer a chance to anyone who wants to, to design some cover art for the mixtape. I have no problem doing it myself, but if anyone else wanted to, I wanted to give them that opportunity.
There are a few guidelines I need to lay out. Firstly, there can be no copyrighted images in the art. I know that sounds weird coming from a guy that is not a fan of copyright law, however I think it’s important to pick our battles. We’re trying to accomplish a lot with the use of copyrighted sound recordings, so I don’t want to add visual copyrights to that too. Plus I think it’s important for this cd to stand out as an individual piece of art that references someone else’s music.
That being said, I’d love to find a way for the art to reference Lady Gaga without having to show her directly. The one idea I had thought of was a conductor in an orchestra pit wearing DJ headphones and right over his head on the stage you just see these 18” heels. Not that we had to do that, but it gives you an idea of how we could reference Gaga without her being the focus.
I would like for it to have some kind of elegant feel to it, to juxtapose the craziness of the music. The title should be listed as:
L’Opéra où la Musique Devient Gaga, a reimagining of Lady Gaga by Haus of Glitch.

The Poker Face Musical Revue (a reimagining of Lady Gaga) @ladygaga
Artist’s Notes: For me, there was a moment when I fell artistically in-love with Gaga. I liked “Just Dance.” But it was when I saw her perform “Poker Face” on television on her piano that I connected with Gaga as an artist. I knew she was legit. In musically reimagining “Poker Face,” I wanted to honor that moment.

Artist’s Notes: I’m fascinated by dead technology. We are lucky enough to live in a time where modern technology moves at light-speed and we are witnesses to its growth. From Betamax to pagers to laserdisc.
It was only a half century ago that there was a huge switch-over from telephone operators placing calls for customers at a switchboard to people self-dialing from their homes. It was a massive upgrade, including townhall meetings to instruct people on how to dial their telephones. (There’s videos on YouTube…I highly recommend watching them.)
I wanted to focus on this progress of technology, as well as use the chaotic nature of telephone rings to juxtapose the beauty and annoyance of modern communication. I sampled different vintage telephone sounds, cell phone ringtones and operator instructional videos, as well as a personal favorite: Lily Tomlin’s “This Is A Recording.”
