Hey guys! Many of you know, I’m wrapping work on the Gaga Mixtape…and I couldn’t be more excited. This has been 14 months in the making. And I’m getting it mastered so the audio will be on point. And I’m getting a thousand physical copies pressed, to be given away for free. :D
Many of you guys have volunteered to design cd covers, which I’ve used on YouTube and SoundCloud. I love that my sound art gives someone a chance to make visual art. It’s a beautiful collaboration. So I wanted to offer a chance to anyone who wants to, to design some cover art for the mixtape. I have no problem doing it myself, but if anyone else wanted to, I wanted to give them that opportunity.
There are a few guidelines I need to lay out. Firstly, there can be no copyrighted images in the art. I know that sounds weird coming from a guy that is not a fan of copyright law, however I think it’s important to pick our battles. We’re trying to accomplish a lot with the use of copyrighted sound recordings, so I don’t want to add visual copyrights to that too. Plus I think it’s important for this cd to stand out as an individual piece of art that references someone else’s music.
That being said, I’d love to find a way for the art to reference Lady Gaga without having to show her directly. The one idea I had thought of was a conductor in an orchestra pit wearing DJ headphones and right over his head on the stage you just see these 18” heels. Not that we had to do that, but it gives you an idea of how we could reference Gaga without her being the focus.
I would like for it to have some kind of elegant feel to it, to juxtapose the craziness of the music. The title should be listed as:
L’Opéra où la Musique Devient Gaga, a reimagining of Lady Gaga by Haus of Glitch.
